Practical information

Congratulations!  You have been selected to participate in the ADAPT program:

You may have already heard many things about ADAPT; how difficult it is, how fun it is, and hopefully, how rewarding it is!  So, I’d like to warmly welcome you to the course that will change the way you present, and quite surely change the way you communicate with others!

Past participants have told us that ADAPT is not a simple presentation skills course.  It is much more than simple tips and tricks to be a better presenter.  It is a GAME CHANGER that will make you a better communicator.

We developed ADAPT over 25 years ago because we felt that the key to high level presentations and communication must include individual coaching.  And your personal investment in the change you want to see in yourself will be well worth the efforts.

We like to say that “presentations are all about leadership” because since the 1990’s we have been training and coaching managers, engineers, and top executives around the world to speak effectively when addressing international business audiences, both internally and externally.  Leaders with poor oral communication skills jeopardize success, while engaged and charismatic speakers can ensure it.

Living in France with my American background has taught me that short, clear, and explicit presentations are the keys to winning in a global economy.  This is especially true when English is used in a multicultural environment, with both native and non-native speakers and audiences.  Clarity is paramount when presenting to a multinational public, not only linguistically, but also in the structure and delivery of key messages.

ADAPT is quite possibly the longest running course in Airbus delivered by one trainer, and you are about to embark on a personal journey that will allow you to understand not only who you are, and how you communicate, but moreover how to use your strengths to better communicate to customers, both internal and external.

Get ready to enjoy the full ADAPT program!

This document has been designed to give you an overall view of what to expect in the ADAPT program.  It is a carefully planned mix of individual session and group sessions.

Feedback, Analysis and Development of Action Plans

The ADAPT program is a carefully planned pedagogical mixture of 4 individual and 3 group sessions with a training objective to:

  1. enhance presentation and group communication skills with a specific Airbus presentation in formal speaking situations,
  2. increase internal awareness of diverse Airbus subjects among participants from different business units,
  3. reinforce persuasion skills by presenting a controversial airline subject in formal speaking situations with and without computer slides
  4. develop team building through common communication challenges and motivation combined with shared recognition of success.

The program is intended to help you:

  • Identify your strong and weak points with a specific presentation.
  • Learn how to transmit messages in formal speaking situations.
  • Consolidate lessons learned and establish areas of improvement with one-on-one coaching.
  • To handle hostile and non-hostile questions effectively.
  • Evaluate personal improvement and define action plans.

Equipment:

For each INDIVIDUAL phase you will need your lap-top with your presentation stored on it.

ADAPT has been rebooted to also deal with the elements of Screen-to-Screen Presenting.  As such, please ensure that you have wireless connection capabilities.

Good luck!

NB:

Be careful to plan time to work on your presentation after Phase 3.  We have purposely provided you with time between phase 3 and Phase 4 so that you have the time to optimize your presentation according to the suggestions learned in the course.  However, do not take the break lightly – you will need the time, so plan ahead in your schedule!

If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact Steve Dillingham, your trainer and coach, directly via cell phone +33.6.71.72.59.59 or email steve.dillingham@aptpresentations.com and info@aptpresentations.com

Phase 1 : Individual Audit

  2. Visual Aids (Slide usage and elaboration),
  3. Non-Verbal communication (eye contact, body language, gestures),
  4. Delivery (voice conviction, speed, language, rhetoric),
  5. Confidence (expressed to the audience),
  6. Persuasion (capacity to be persuasive),
  7. Question Handling (capacity to manage hostile and non-hostile questions).

Phase 4 : Group presentation & hostile question management

Phase 4 allows the other members of the team to critique, suggest and improve elements of your presentation.  During this phase, the trainer administers the second audit (APT2).  APT2 serves to measure the progress, which you have made.

It is voluntarily placed a few days after your individual coaching sessions to allow you for the necessary time to prepare an optimized version of your presentation.  Take into account that you will need to plan for this optimization time in your work schedule.

This phase has four steps:

  1. a group learning phase for handling hostile questions,
  2. a delivery phase for each presentation in front of colleagues,
  3. a question and answer session by colleagues,
  4. a correction phase according to comments by colleagues

Please note: full day presence required from 9h-18h

Phase 5 : Individual feedback, analyis and action plan

During this final session the trainer will use the two audits (APT1 and APT2) as a focal point for the progress which you have made, and necessary future improvements required. A viewing of the final presentation with the coach will take place at this stage.

You will receive tangible feedback in graph and written form.

At the end of the session the coach will draw up a Self-Improvement Action Plan with specific goals and tasks to accomplish by certain agreed upon deadlines.  This forms a “moral contract” for improvement by you to the coach.
